The specially modified Cessna Caravan departed from Concord, California, completing autonomous landings and takeoffs at Phoenix, Fort Worth, Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, before reaching its final destination at Dare County Regional Airport in North Carolina. Remote monitoring was conducted from Joby’s California command center and Shaw Air Force Base, with some oversight occurring from distances exceeding 2,323 miles.
The journey concluded in proximity to the Wright Brothers National Memorial at Kitty Hawk, a symbolic choice honoring the birthplace of powered aviation.
Throughout the transcontinental voyage, the aircraft navigated complex operational scenarios. It successfully integrated into traffic patterns at Phoenix Deer Valley, recognized as one of America’s highest-traffic general aviation facilities, while autonomously adjusting its flight path to avoid hazardous weather systems in real time.
