The electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid Group (LCID) has initiated a safety recall affecting 27,185 units of its Air luxury electric sedan across the United States due to potential fire hazards connected to the exterior lighting system. Federal automotive safety officials at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) made the announcement public on Friday, August 28.
Shares of LCID experienced a 2.83% increase during trading as the recall information became public.
The safety concern involves the exterior lighting electrical circuit, which has demonstrated a tendency to overheat. Federal regulators have indicated that this overheating condition creates a potential fire hazard. Additionally, the malfunction may result in complete failure of external lighting systems, creating additional collision risks.
Federal safety authorities are recommending that vehicle owners position their cars in outdoor locations away from structures until a verified solution has been implemented.
Lucid has proactively implemented corrective measures. The automaker has distributed a remote software patch, and federal regulators have verified that 20,719 of the impacted vehicles have successfully received the update.
However, this leaves thousands of additional vehicles still awaiting the software correction. Vehicle owners who have not yet received the remote update are advised to verify their vehicle’s current software configuration.
Record-Breaking Safety Action for Lucid
This safety recall represents the most extensive action in Lucid’s corporate history. The 27,185 affected vehicles surpass the manufacturer’s complete annual delivery figures from 2025, during which the company delivered 15,841 units to customers.
This comparison underscores the significant scope of the current recall. The issue extends beyond a minor technical defect impacting a limited customer segment.
Third Safety Recall This Year
The current recall is not an isolated incident for the automaker in 2026. Earlier in January, the manufacturer recalled over 10,000 vehicles to address problems with rearview camera display quality.
Subsequently in May, the company initiated a recall covering 2,039 vehicles experiencing sudden loss of propulsion power.
The latest recall announced Friday represents the third distinct safety action in 2026, cumulatively affecting a substantial portion of the company’s vehicle fleet.
