Despite delivering second-quarter financial results that surpassed analyst projections on every metric, Rubrik experienced a significant decline in its stock price during Friday’s premarket session. The data security company saw RBRK shares fall more than 8% even as it announced improved full-year projections.
The company’s quarterly revenue for the period concluding July 31 totaled $427.3 million, marking a 38% surge compared to the $309.9 million reported during the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
On an adjusted basis, diluted earnings per share registered at 20 cents, representing a remarkable reversal from the 3-cent per share deficit recorded in the comparable year-earlier period.
The company’s subscription annual recurring revenue for the quarter expanded by 32.6% to reach $1.66 billion. This performance exceeded Rubrik’s internal forecast of $1.64 billion and surpassed Wall Street’s consensus estimate projecting 31% expansion.
The figure also marginally outpaced the 32.5% growth rate achieved in the preceding quarter, suggesting a modest but encouraging trend toward accelerating momentum.
Net new subscription ARR totaled $96 million, reflecting a 35% year-over-year jump. This significantly outperformed analyst expectations of $75.9 million, representing another notable upside surprise.
Company Elevates Forward Outlook
Looking ahead to the third quarter, Rubrik projects revenue in the $429 million to $431 million range, with adjusted earnings per share anticipated between 7 cents and 9 cents.
For the complete fiscal year 2027, management increased its revenue projection to a range of $1.685 billion to $1.693 billion, while adjusted EPS is now forecast to land between 47 cents and 53 cents.
The company also boosted the midpoint of its fiscal 2027 ARR guidance to $1.88 billion, which suggests 28.8% growth. This represents an upgrade from the previous midpoint target of $1.86 billion, which had implied 27.1% expansion.
The increased midpoint incorporates the $20 million outperformance relative to guidance, along with an incremental $4.5 million boost applied to the latter half of fiscal 2027.
Market Response and Analysis
Investor anticipation was notably elevated entering the earnings announcement. Strong quarterly performances from industry peers including CrowdStrike and Okta had already buoyed optimism throughout the cybersecurity space.
BTIG analyst Gray Powell indicated his view that the results “should have cleared expectations across all key targets,” though he acknowledged that elevated anticipation may have diminished the impact of the solid performance.
Heading into the earnings release, Rubrik had already appreciated nearly 40% year-to-date, creating a more demanding threshold for positive surprise.
Lingering questions about the company’s financial position persist. Rubrik continues to maintain negative shareholder equity and elevated debt obligations, while also recording GAAP losses.
Jefferies had planned an analyst conference call for August 28 to provide deeper analysis of the quarterly performance, potentially shedding additional light on the stock’s trajectory.
Based on the most recent available information, the stock had generated approximately 25.69% gains year-to-date, with average daily trading volume hovering around 3.6 million shares.
