Key Highlights
- A trio of SpaceXAI engineers will livestream their attempt to create an entire startup in 72 hours powered by AI agents
- Dubbed Grok Bot Galaxy, the experiment takes place September 15-17 in San Francisco with free global livestream access
- The participants start with zero planning — no business concept, product vision, or company name predetermined
- Grok Bot represents SpaceXAI’s autonomous agent platform, distinct from the Grok conversational AI on X
- The company emerged when SpaceX bought xAI this past February in a deal valuing xAI at $250 billion
A team of three SpaceXAI engineers is preparing to demonstrate what autonomous AI agents can accomplish by building an entire startup in 72 consecutive hours — all broadcast live for the public to observe.
The participants are Matt Palmer, Lauren Tan, and Roshan Sadanani, who will begin their marathon challenge on September 15 and continue through September 17. Titled Grok Bot Galaxy, the experiment will unfold at a San Francisco location.
Daily programming runs from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Pacific time. Viewers worldwide can tune in via a free livestream throughout the entire duration.
The trio begins with a completely blank slate. They haven’t selected a business name, determined what product to build, or even settled on an industry. Every strategic choice will emerge organically during the live broadcast.
Understanding Grok Bot’s Capabilities
Central to this experiment is Grok Bot, SpaceXAI’s autonomous agent platform. This system differs significantly from the Grok conversational AI that users interact with on X (previously known as Twitter).
Grok Bot empowers users to construct custom AI agents, assign them identities, define their missions, and release them to operate across various applications and web platforms. These agents function on always-on cloud infrastructure and can execute complex, multi-stage workflows without interruption.
The engineering team will leverage Grok Bot throughout the startup creation process — from brainstorming concepts to strategic planning, conducting product strategy sessions, and executing development tasks. Additional SpaceXAI team members will participate in dedicated sessions focused on go-to-market strategy, customer service operations, and promotional campaigns.
The Grok Bot platform has been publicly accessible for approximately 30 days.
SpaceXAI’s Origins and Context
SpaceXAI came into existence following SpaceX’s acquisition of xAI in February through an all-equity transaction that assigned xAI a $250 billion valuation. The company expanded further in August by purchasing software development company Cursor for $60 billion.
Throughout this year, Elon Musk has made ambitious public statements regarding Grok’s capabilities. A 72-hour uninterrupted, unedited construction process presents a more challenging validation than brief demonstration videos.
However, it’s important to recognize this represents a company showcasing its proprietary technology. Observers should pay close attention to how frequently the human participants need to intervene, correct errors, or take over tasks from the AI agents.
This demonstration coincides with competitor Anthropic releasing research examining potential misuse scenarios for its Claude AI systems, including cybersecurity threats and fraudulent activities. Musk has conceded that Grok doesn’t currently lead in certain competitive categories.
Broader industry concerns persist regarding responsibility and oversight when AI agents operate with minimal human supervision.
When the livestream concludes on September 17, viewers will have definitive evidence of whether the team successfully launched a functional product with genuine users, or merely produced branding elements and a promotional webpage.
