Strategy (MSTR) shares experienced a robust 7% increase during Monday’s premarket session, climbing to approximately $164 from Friday’s closing price of $153.92. The catalyst driving this momentum was Bitcoin’s impressive rally, which saw the digital asset trading comfortably above the $85,000 mark.
The premier cryptocurrency peaked at $85,166 during Monday trading, representing its strongest valuation since January 29. Bitcoin posted gains exceeding 5% over the preceding 24-hour period and has now recorded positive sessions in four out of the last five trading days.
This upward momentum represents a continuation of the recovery that commenced after Bitcoin touched approximately $75,000 on September 15. The cryptocurrency successfully reclaimed the $80,000 level on Friday before breaking through $85,000 on Monday.
Investors received additional positive news directly from Strategy. The Bitcoin-focused corporate treasury announced its return to actively accumulating the cryptocurrency following a nearly three-week hiatus.
Strategy Expands Bitcoin Position with 950 BTC Acquisition
During the period spanning September 14 through September 20, Strategy completed the purchase of 950 BTC for an aggregate sum of approximately $75.7 million. The company paid an average of $79,670 for each Bitcoin, with this figure accounting for all associated fees and transaction expenses.
This latest acquisition elevated Strategy’s aggregate Bitcoin reserves to 846,000 BTC. The company’s entire position carries a cumulative acquisition cost approaching $63.8 billion, translating to an average purchase price of $75,416 per coin.
With Bitcoin trading near $85,000 on Monday, Strategy’s holdings carried a market value of approximately $72 billion. This valuation indicates the company was sitting on unrealized gains exceeding $8 billion on its Bitcoin treasury at current market prices.
The company financed this purchase entirely through USD Cash reserves rather than issuing additional common stock. Strategy confirmed no MSTR shares were sold via its at-the-market offering program during this timeframe.
Additionally, Strategy executed a buyback of roughly 1.77 million STRC preferred units for $174 million. The company concluded the period maintaining approximately $5.04 billion in its USD Reserve alongside $1.05 billion in USD Cash.
Broader Cryptocurrency Rally Elevates Related Equities
Bitcoin’s strong performance generated positive momentum across cryptocurrency-adjacent stocks ahead of Monday’s market open. Coinbase shares advanced approximately 5.3%, while Robinhood registered gains of roughly 5%.
Strategy had already posted impressive gains of 16.4% during the previous week before Monday’s premarket rally. Shares closed Friday at $153.92 following Bitcoin’s approximately 5.3% weekly advance.
The cryptocurrency’s rally has persisted despite the recent failure of the Clarity Act and a Federal Reserve interest rate increase. Recent regulatory developments have featured temporary SEC exemptions designed to facilitate certain tokenized securities trading.
Short position liquidations have amplified the upward movement. According to CoinGlass data referenced by The Block, cryptocurrency markets witnessed over $750 million in liquidations across 24 hours, with approximately $648 million stemming from short positions.
Despite Monday’s eight-month high, Bitcoin continues trading below its October 2025 record near $126,000. Current price levels remain approximately 33% beneath that all-time peak.
Strategy’s most recent disclosure confirms its Bitcoin balance now stands at 846,000 BTC following its first acquisition since late August. The corporation maintains more than $6 billion in combined USD Reserve and USD Cash positions.
