Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company announced unprecedented monthly sales figures for August, propelled by sustained appetite for semiconductors powering artificial intelligence systems.
The global leader in contract chip manufacturing generated T$514.8 billion ($16.35 billion) in August revenue, marking a substantial 53.3% increase compared to the previous year. Sequential growth from July reached 10.1%.
Shares of TSM declined 0.61% during Thursday’s trading session before the financial disclosure.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited, TSM
This performance represents the fourth straight month where the Taiwan-based manufacturer has delivered sequential revenue expansion.
From January through August, cumulative revenue totaled T$3.38 trillion, reflecting 39.3% growth against the comparable 2025 timeframe.
Artificial Intelligence Applications Drive Production to Capacity Limits
Strong customer orders for TSMC’s cutting-edge manufacturing nodes have been the primary catalyst. According to TrendForce research, production capacity for the company’s 5-nanometer, 4-nanometer, and 3-nanometer processes reached 100% utilization throughout the second quarter.
Management characterized AI-driven demand as “extremely robust” during the July quarterly earnings discussion. Second quarter earnings jumped 77% year-over-year, while third quarter revenue projections ranged from $44.6 billion to $45.8 billion.
The chipmaker’s leading-edge processes remain in exceptional demand largely because Taiwan Semiconductor serves as a primary manufacturing partner for Nvidia, which continues expanding output of its artificial intelligence accelerators.
Sustained customer demand has enabled Taiwan Semiconductor to increase contract manufacturing pricing while simultaneously expanding production facilities.
Over the trailing twelve months, TSMC’s equity value has doubled, while gaining sixfold since the end of 2022.
Commanding Position in Worldwide Foundry Industry
According to TrendForce data, Taiwan Semiconductor captured 72.5% of global foundry market revenue during the second quarter. Samsung Foundry held the runner-up position with 5.9%, while China-based SMIC accounted for 5.4%.
The ten largest contract chipmakers globally generated combined revenue approaching $53.49 billion in Q2, setting a new industry record. This performance was partially attributed to limited availability of advanced manufacturing processes required for AI applications and high-performance computing workloads.
Earlier this week, Taiwan Semiconductor and Netherlands-based equipment manufacturer ASML unveiled a collaborative effort to develop next-generation semiconductor production capabilities. The foundry leader confirmed intentions to deploy ASML’s High NA lithography systems for volume production of advanced chip designs beginning in 2030.
