TLDR
- Zeus Wallet suspended operations following a security breach detected on August 5, 2026
- CEO Evan Kaloudis stated all customer assets remain secure and untouched
- Investigation revealed no security flaws in the Bitcoin Lightning Network infrastructure
- Affected users with terminated Lightning Service Provider connections will receive new channels
- The company has not announced when services will be restored
On August 5, 2026, Zeus Wallet, a non-custodial Bitcoin Lightning Network solution, took the decision to disable its infrastructure following the discovery of a security breach. While the organization successfully isolated the threat within several hours, it opted to maintain the shutdown pending completion of a comprehensive security assessment.
In an official company statement, CEO Evan Kaloudis revealed that preliminary findings suggest the breach was confined exclusively to Zeus’ internal systems. He emphasized that user funds remained entirely protected and that no weaknesses were identified in the underlying Lightning node technology.
The wallet functions under a non-custodial framework, which means users maintain direct control over their own cryptocurrency rather than entrusting it to the platform. This architectural approach is cited by the company as a key factor in why customer holdings were never in jeopardy throughout the security event.
Details regarding the specific attack vector remain undisclosed by Zeus. Additionally, the organization has refrained from providing an estimated timeframe for service restoration.
New Channels Promised to Impacted Customers
A portion of the user base experienced forced closures of their Lightning Service Provider connections during the service interruption. Zeus has committed to providing these individuals with new replacement channels following the resumption of normal operations and the ability to handle requests.
Users who experienced disruptions have been instructed to reach out via the support feature within the Zeus mobile application. The organization acknowledged that support ticket resolution may experience delays given the elevated volume of incoming inquiries.
According to Kaloudis, the security incident has validated the company’s ongoing development efforts around trusted execution environments, commonly referred to as enclaves. He additionally referenced the Validating Lightning Signer initiative as among the security enhancements Zeus has been building to defend against similar threats.
Latest Disruption Follows Recent Boltz Closure
This cyberattack-related downtime arrives only days following an unrelated service modification at Zeus. Earlier this week, the platform deactivated its swap feature after Boltz, a non-custodial Bitcoin exchange service, announced an indefinite suspension of its platform.
Zeus attributed the swap service removal directly to Boltz’s operational pause. Both incidents have been communicated independently, with no suggestion from the company that they share any connection.
Zeus remains committed to finalizing its comprehensive security review before bringing systems back online. Replacement Lightning connections for users who experienced closures will be established once full operations recommence.
No target date has been announced for the return to standard functionality.
